Getting there - For this game we walked from our Air Bnb which was located by the Wagner metro stop , about 2 miles from the San Siro. We didnt fancy the packed metro and were planning on a stopping off point half way or a little further for something to eat and drink. It worked out well with great Pizza and a bottle of Vino Rosso at Pizzikotto on Via Celio. Well recommended for a quick bite close to the stadium at a place that wasnt busy an hour and a half before kick off.
Getting in - Tickets for this game were from Milan direct so you have to register your details but it was pretty painless. You do need to keep an eye out on when they go on general sale and whilst i was hot on the button at the exact time and date, i did notice they were still on sale a few days leading up to the game. The attendance for this was 72,000, so they had a few left. We paid 32 euro in the middle section behind the goal and opposite the Milan Ultras. There were about 5-6000 of them who were entertainingly vocal throughout.
What its like - This was my second visit to San Siro and it doesnt fail to impress as you walk up to it. It looks like a spaceship from outside and the towering stands and swirling exit spirals seem huge. Once inside and up what seemed like 20 flights of stairs we were in position. Would certainly recommend arriving earlier to get your seats than 5 mins before kick off as we did. Ours were semi occupied and there were no stewards handy to point you in the right direction so it may have been better when there less people around. No matter, we were in, seats were cramped and sightlines to the nearest goal not fantastic.
As for the game. it was a slow starter that became free flowing and could have easily finished 2-2 with both teams creating chances. Some wayward finishing and a very good save at the death from Maignan, when it looked a certain goal, ensured 3 points for the hosts. Post game involved retracing our steps for some further refreshments.
