BRESCIA 0 v TERNANA 0 - STADIO MARIO RIGAMONTI - SERIE B 20th APRIL 2024

BRESCIA 0 v TERNANA 0 - STADIO MARIO RIGAMONTI - SERIE B

Getting there, getting in and what its like

Brescia Calcio were the Serie B longevity Kings of Italy since their formation in 1911. Although they were founding members of Serie A in 1929, most of their existence has been in the second division holding the record of 66 seasons. In 2025 they were put out of business for financial irregularities although at time of writing there is hope that they can reform as a new entity in Serie C and play at Stadio Rigamonti.

Getting there - First game of the 2 game day took us out 60 miles east of Milan to Brescia for their Serie B match against 3rd from bottom Ternana. Depending on the train type, its either a direct  hours ride or 30 mins if you get the Freccia fast trains  from Milan Centrale station (the station worth a visit alone - amazing station architecture if you like that sort of thing). Once there, its a bit of a hike to the stadium so after a stroll and  a bite to eat, we took the subway to Mompiano. The stadium is more or less in front of you as you exit.

Getting in - Tickets from  Ticketone for this one with a link from the Brescia site. 20 Euro for  the uncovered Gradinata Alta stand. We had an eye on the weather the night before and it was / wasnt going to rain around the 2pm kick off time but we largely got away with it, catching the edge of the deluge visible in the hills surrounding the ground.

What its like - The scaffolding companies of Brescia are probably doing a roaring trade as 3 of the stands looked a little temporary. A main covered permanent Tribuna stand was opposite and Curva Nord, home of the Brescia Ultras present in good numbers for this game, to the right.  Away fans, numbering in the low 20's  for the 1000km round trip game, were accomodated in a section of the Curva Sud.

It was a game of numerous chances combined with  low quality finishing. The most promising opportunities falling to Ternana who showed  more urgency in getting out of their relegation troubles than 7th placed Brescia in trying to get into the Serie A playoffs. Ternana had the ball in the net once in each half but both ruled out.  A fairy entertaining game ended 0-0.

Back at the station we met  fellow football trippers waiting for the return  Milan train. Booking a mystery football weekend had them visit Milan on Milan derby weekend but with that game rescheduled to the Monday night, they were sent out to Brescia for a nil nil'er and their only game. Better luck next time lads, DIY!
