Getting there
Rimini's Romeo Neri (first Rimini Olympian) stadium sits amongst the housing and apartments of the sleepy San Giovanni neighborhood, 15 minutes walk from the beach and a little closer to the main train station. The town itself is well placed on the Adriatic coast and being known as a party town with beachside nightclubs, not a bad place to base yourself for a weekend of footy and entertainment. With Serie A Bologna and Serie B Cesena within an hours train ride away, and other lower league teams nearby, you could spend a worse weekend elsewhere!
Getting in.
Tickets from Vivaticket and as it was my only game of the weekend, i chose the main stand Tribuna Gold area for 20 Euro and seated around the halfway line. Home ultras to the left of me, Pescara fans to the right, and a nice little club house bar and club shop area underneath.
What its like.
The Romeo Neri looks quite grand when approaching from the outside and its wide approach roads and architecture, particularly the main stand, fits with its period of construction and opening in the 1930's.
The Tribuna (Grandstand) stand and opposite Distinti stand are the only permanent structures in a multi use stadium with the running track acting as an additional barrier to viewing and atmosphere. It seemed quite a distance for the home and away Ultras in their temporary curves to view the action, but they created a good atmosphere. Pescara, Serie A members in the not too distant past, had filled their allocation. They were both in fine voice and had filled their pockets with pyros and 'bombs' which were infrequently lobbed on to the running track.
Played on a 3G pitch, it was a fairly entertaining game with Rimini, the better side in the first half, creating the majority of chances which they were unable to take. The 2nd half was a repeat of the first but in reverse, although Pescara did take one of their opportunities 5 minutes from time with a headed cross, much to the away fans delight. Well worth the visit.
