Getting there
The Milan to Turin train in just under an hour for 40 odd euro return, had us arriving 3 hours before kick off to take the sights and a bite to eat prior to the game. A nice grand city, very quiet on this Sunday afternoon. Despite Turin having a subway system, none of the lines went out to the stadium so the No10 bus took us the 3 miles from the center along Corso IV Novembre to the Sebastopoli stop at the stadium. As we'd had some pre match refreshments we didn't make use of the fan park outside the ground with food and beer outlets but it looked pleasant enough in the sun.
Getting in
Tickets were via signing up to Torino's website and ordering direct. We were in the Distinti Stand for 25Euro. Once in, we weren't so keen on the view so moved higher to the top ring of the stadium as there were plenty of seats spare.
What its like
Torino play in the Olympic Stadium , first built in the 1930's and originally named after Mussolini, it has had various uses and users ever since. Both Torino and Juventus have played here and the Winter Olympics in 2006 gave it one of its many refurbishments. Torino have held single occupancy since 2011 when Juventus moved to the Allianz. The game started with a little hustle and bustle from both sides but tailed off and not for the first time over the weekend, just not enough quality in front of goal from either side. Torino Ultras in good voice and you could on occasions hear the Frosinone fans but only a couple hundred of them made the near 800km trip. The final whistle met with some whistling dissatisfaction from the Maratona Ultras end. An unremarkable game.
Post game, a well organised series of buses lined up outside the ground to get everyone back into town and it dropped off a minute or two's walk from Porta Susa train station.
We jumped back on the Frecciarossa to Milan, I left my phone on the train, it went to Bologna and back whilst we went to Monza. A thousand thankyou's (Grazie Mille) to the two ladies at the Porto Garibaldi Trenitalia ticket desk who phoned the train manager, located the phone on the seat table and administered its pickup in the morning. Outstanding!
